I was wondering if you had any advice on potty training a tea cup yorkie
Potty Training a Tea Cup Yorkie is a whole lot like potty training any Yorkie, or any dog for that matter. They key is setting your Yorkie up to succeed and being ridiculously consistent about what you expect your Yorkie to do.
One of the best trainers out there, Bob Bailey, says: “training is a mechanical skill. Many trainers make costly training mistakes that slow down the training, teach the dogs chains of behavior or confuse and discourage the dog altogether. It’s important to respond to the dog that’s in front of us and be willing to adjust our position accordingly.” (read that full article here.)
What he’s saying here is that we, the Yorkie owners, are making the mistakes by asking for different things at different times. Because so many Yorkies get trained to Pee Pads, but we also ask them to go potty outside. And sometimes we look the other way when we catch them going where they shouldn’t.
We’re guilty – not our Yorkies. So work hard on being more consistent. Ask for only one behavior. If it’s a pee pad, ask for it in the exact same location each time. If it’s outside same thing.
Remember puppies need to go about 20 minutes after a meal and immediately after they wake (this includes naps). Set your pup for success, you’ll both be happier.
